A Note From the Founder

For the first time in nearly a decade, I am learning how to enjoy a sober social life.

Sobriety has not made my life smaller.

It has made it more honest, more intentional, and more alive.

I can sit with companions even while they crack cold ones, raise my own cup, laugh with them, remember the night, stay out of trouble, and wake up with my dignity intact.

That matters to me.

After choosing sobriety, I found myself asking a simple question:

How do I keep living a full, joyful, adventurous, deeply connected social life without placing alcohol at the center of it?

I built Sober Socials as the answer I've been looking for.

Sober Socials is a Waco / Central Texas community for people who want to raise the standards of their social life. People who want substantive conversations, authentic connections, wholesome fun, meaningful experiences, and nights they can actually remember.

You do not have to explain your whole life to join.

You do not have to call yourself anything.

You only have to want a better way to gather.

Sober Socials

A Social Life Worth Remembering.
Why I’m Building This

As I have shared more about my sobriety journey, more of my companions have reached out.

Many of us are walking through something similar.

Some are sober. Some are sober-curious. Some are taking a break. Some are simply trying to live healthier, avoid trouble, grow up, reclaim discipline, and stop letting old vices write the story of their life. But there is a real challenge: our social infrastructure still revolves around alcohol. So many gatherings, venues, celebrations, and weekend plans assume drinking is the center of the experience. If you are trying to abstain, moderate, heal, grow, or simply live with more intention, it can feel like you have to choose between your social life and your standards. I do not believe we should have to make that choice. We should not have to rely on alcohol to remedy our inhibitions. Sobriety can liberate our authentic presence. Sober Socials is my attempt to build the kind of community I needed first.

What Sober Socials Is

Sober Socials is a community of companions seeking to foster a more wholesome social life that does not revolve around alcohol.

It begins simply: a group chat, conversations, online gatherings, and in-person meetups. From there, we build. We get together. We share meals. We go outside. We have substantive conversations. We create meaningful experiences. We cultivate camaraderie with people who have similar social values. We make friends without needing intoxication to make the room work. This is not about becoming less social. It is about becoming more present. More authentic. More intentional. More capable of enjoying life without compromising the man or woman you are trying to become. That is the work. This is the invitation.

What This Is Not

Do not think of this like an AA group.

Sober Socials is not a recovery program. It is not therapy. It is not a lecture. It is not a place to judge people who drink. It is not a moral performance. It is not only for people who identify as recovering alcoholics. You do not even have to be devoted to sobriety for life to participate. Some people are sober for a reason. Some for a season. Some for a lifetime. Others are simply tired of the same old social script and want to live with more health, clarity, discipline, and intention. All of that can belong here. The point is not to shame the old night. The point is to build a better one.

Who This Is For

Sober Socials is for people who want to raise the standard of their social life.

It is for the person who still wants to have fun, but no longer wants fun to cost them their clarity, their peace, their health, their reputation, or their next morning. It is for those who want to meet new people without shallow networking. It is for those who want friendship without constant pressure to drink. It is for people who have outgrown old rooms but have not yet found the new ones. It is for men and women who want adventure, fellowship, shared meals, lake days, coffee hangs, community calls, creative nights, service projects, deep conversations, and wholesome recreation. It is for the companion who still wants to raise a cup. Just not the same cup that used to take so much from them. This is for anyone willing to ask a serious question: What would my social life look like if I built it with intention?

The Need

I understand how hard this can be.

You may genuinely want to live healthier, but still want to go out. You may want to be sober, but not isolated. You may want better friendships, but not know where to find people who share your standards. You may have tried going back to the same old bars, ordering the limited options, hanging out with old friends, and realizing that while you still love the people, the environment no longer fits who you are becoming. I have been there. I have sat in those rooms with sober eyes. I have watched people I care about become less themselves as the night goes on. I have watched good people become more susceptible to bad decisions, overspending, foolishness, and regret. I have seen the same pattern in myself. And I have also learned this: when I feel strong, clear, healthy, and present, I am not missing out. I am finally there. That is what I want more people to experience. Not isolation. Not fear. Not a lesser version of social life. A better one.

What We Can Build Together

Sober Socials begins with simple forms of connection.

Nothing overcomplicated.

Just better reasons to gather.

Community Chats

A place to introduce yourself, share ideas, make plans, encourage one another, and stay connected between gatherings.

The group chat is the first table.

Round Table Calls

Online video rooms for people who want deeper conversation, real introductions, and a way to connect even when we are not meeting in person.

Sometimes one good conversation can change the tone of a whole week.

Shared Meals

Dinners, cookouts, potlucks, coffee hangs, and table-centered fellowship.

There is still no better way to build community than breaking bread together.

Outdoor Socials

Walks, hikes, parks, lake days, games, adventures, and active experiences around Waco and Central Texas.

Sobriety pairs well with sunlight.

Creative Nights

Open mics, music, storytelling, art, writing, and collaborative projects.

A lot of good people connect best when they are creating something.

Meaningful Experiences

Gatherings that have a little more intention behind them.

Not just “what are we doing tonight?”

But “what kind of memory are we making?”

Local Service

Community gardens, environmental stewardship, cleanup days, bee-related projects, helping hands, and practical ways to strengthen the world immediately around us.

A healthier social life should eventually make us more useful.

This Is the Founding Stage

Sober Socials is not a finished institution.

That is the point.

We are at the beginning.

The first people who join will help shape the tone, standards, rhythms, gatherings, conversations, and culture of this community.

Your voice matters right now.

Your ideas matter.

Your presence matters.

Your invitation matters.

The kind of people you bring into the room matters.

If you have been waiting for a better social life to appear fully formed, you may be waiting for a long time.

Sometimes you have to help build the thing you wish already existed.

That is what I am doing.

You are invited to help.

Community Standards

If we want better rooms, we have to become better stewards of the room.

Sober Socials is built on a few simple standards. -Come with respect. -No pressure to drink. -No shame for someone’s story. No predatory behavior. -No needless drama. -No social games that make people feel less free to be present. -Be honest. -Be welcoming. -Invite people who make the room better. -Contribute more than you consume. The quality of the room depends on the people willing to protect & provide for it.

After You Join

When you enter the community, start with a simple introduction.

Tell us:

Your name.

Where you are based.

One kind of gathering you would actually show up for.

One thing you are hoping to build in your social life.

That is enough to begin.

From there, join the conversation, watch for updates, enter the Round Table, check the calendar, suggest an idea, invite one aligned friend, and show up to the first thing that fits.

Community is not built by spectators.

It is built by people willing to participate.

Waco First

Sober Socials begins in Waco and Central Texas because this is where my people are.

This is where I am rooted.

This is where I have struggled, grown, built, failed, recovered, worked, worshiped, gathered, and learned what kind of community I want to help cultivate.

Waco is not a launchpad to escape.

It is the first table.

If we can build something honest here—with real people, real relationships, real rhythm, and real accountability—then we will have something worth carrying forward.

Not audience first.

Community first.

Not appearance first.

Substance first.

Invite the Right People

The best communities grow by invitation before they grow by algorithm.

Do not invite everyone.

Invite the people who would make the room better.

The friend who wants to get healthier.

The companion who is tired of the old script.

The person who can laugh without needing to lose themselves.

The builder, artist, believer, thinker, athlete, student, entrepreneur, brother, sister, or neighbor who wants a more meaningful social life.

Bring people who want to be more alive, not less responsible.

That is how the right table forms.

Take Your Seat at The Table

Together, we can create a social life worth remembering.

If you are in Waco or Central Texas and you want deeper friendship, healthier rhythms, better gatherings, authentic connection, and meaningful experiences, this is your invitation.

Not after the community is polished.

Now. While the table is still being built.

Join the chat. Introduce yourself. Enter the Round Table. Watch the calendar. Invite a companion. Show up when the door opens.

We do not have to wait for someone else to build the rooms we need.

We can begin here.

Waco / Central Texas

Not less social. More intentional.
